Thus, I'm selecting this post on which to comment with what would otherwise have been in a message. Please delete this, as it obviously has nothing to do with your entry!

Dear Maggie,

My name is Susan Lenz. You don't know me (I read your blog regularly but rarely comment); but, like most embroiderers, I know you, your blog, your talent, your energy, and your books. I have a blog. In fact, I started writing on a blog long before I knew what blogging was really all about. Slowly, I started finding and reading other fiber arts blogs. Eventually, I joined some of the blogrings.

Earlier in the year there were many blogs discussing New Year's resolutions; and although I don't generally set such goals, the various posts made me reflect on the past year. Without a doubt, joining the fiber blogrings and establishing communication with other like-minded artists were the most influential things to happen to my life and my art. I had a hair brained idea to share my new, supportive global community by using the two free weeks at Gallery 80808/Vista Studios to which I'm entitled by my studio rental agreement.

Anyway, the more I thought about it, the more I knew I wanted to take on this project for 2008. Shortly, I had a name, CYBER FYBER; and a date, January 8 - 20, 2009; and started building a series of interconnected blogs that function like a website. The exhibition will have three main parts: 1) traded fiber postcards, 2) traded fiber ATCs, and 3) an invitational section with works by artists whose work has influenced mine and shows a specific aspect/benefit to using the Internet/blogging as a tool for creativity.

Of course, this plan is a bit scary in several ways. First, I'd need lots of fiber postcards and fiber ATCs. Second, would anyone even be interested? Third, would the invited artists respond positively? The list goes on and on.

Throwing caution to the wind, I forged ahead with CYBER FYBER. Since about January 5, I've been hard at work....making, photographing, uploading 163 fiber postcards and 130 fiber ATCs and planning this exhibition...which I will "formally" announce next Saturday.

Why wait until Saturday? Because for the past week of so, I've been writing an email a night to one of the invited artists, my "Wish List". You are on it. I would be so completely honored (stunned and/or utterly floored), if you would accept this invitation to exhibit two or so works, your choice. Ideally, the choice should reflect how you, personally, create work for possible publication...an ever so important role in sharing ideas and communicating with other fiber artists.

I wish I could promise that the exhibition will be fully insured. I wish I could promise return postage paid by the exhibition. I will, of course, be applying for grants and corporate sponsors...but, I really need a few commitments from artists in order to do this...risk takers...you know...people who might trust that I'll take every precaution, safe guard all the art, handle everything with respect and utmost care, and return the pieces in the same condition in which they were received. So, please, look at the site (a series of connected blogs) and let me know your worries, concerns, questions, and any hesitations. You are part of the Invitational Art section.

I could write more, but I think it best to share my contact information tell you how to access CYBER FYBER since a link isn't really possible in a comment box. Please let me know what you think.
Susan Lenz
2123 Park Street
Columbia, SC 29201
USA
(803) 254-0842 Mouse House, Inc.
