Help me with Cyber Fyber

Very exciting - just been 'talking' to Susan Lenz about the work I am putting in the Cyber Fyber exhibition. Do go to her blog and see her video of her exhibition. Wonderful work. http://artbysusanlenz.blogspot.com/2008/06/blog-post.html

I'm going to send my Genetics of the Fruit Bowl piece which you have all seen (if not look at the labels). This was based on the keeping qualities of fruit and why apples now keep so well. It was based on ideas about modified DNA and so on.

I am going to make a new textile for the exhibition based on The Genetics of the World Wide Web. It seems to me that there is a real correlation between the web and the concept of DNA - think genetic codes and binary codes, the zip of synapse compared with the zoom of emails around the world. Enough of the concept - you get the picture.

What I want to include is text about what makes a blogger and I think it would be fun if lots of comments from you all could be included. We'll make this piece together! I can't guarantee that all the words will be readable, as the technique I plan to use distresses the fabric. But I will copy and paste everything you all say and include it.

So loads of comments please on what characteristics make up the generous, colourful world of the blogger, or any other thoughts on blogging - has it changed your life? It has mine in many ways - never had so many mates!

I also plan to digitise and stitch out some of the little pics that people use when they comment. They won't really be recognisable but let me know if you don't want yours used. You'll find the Cyber Fyber exhibition details on http://cyberfyberexhibition.blogspot.com/

Maggie - what a fantastic idea - blogging has changed my life - not only do I write about textiles and my life, which really helps but I now read 155 blogs (only when they are updated of course), have loads of cyber friends and tons of inspiration.
See you Sunday at Urchfont??

Hi Maggie--has blogging changed my life--you betcha--I have grown not only in the knowledge of how to use the computer but in being more creative and adventurous.
I have met some amazing people who are fabulous artists-generous- caring-friends for life.

My decision to start blogging was frivolous at the time - just a lark. Looking back it was one of the most important things I have ever done for my creative life. I can't count the number of new friends and new skills I have developed and the amount inspiration and support I have received can't be measured.

Where do I start on this one ,Maggie? Blogging works on so many different levels for such a variety of people. It can be a diary record of artistic or creative activity interspersed with travels in foreign lands and an inclusion into family (and animals) life and the cultures of far away places. My cyber mates are very special to me. My blogging started as a promise to some dodgy mates, and I have really enjoyed the experience of writing and reading the blogs. I also love blogs with lots of photos... then it doesn't matter which language they are written in. Think we are very fortunate that so many are written in English as well as in the mother tongue of the blogger.
Well you did ask!!!
Best Wishes
Maggie (the other oone)

Textile bloggers are some of the most generous and positive people I haven't met!!!!(well not in the flesh).
Blogging is networking on a worldwide scale.
Reading blogs is time-consuming but inspiring.
Blogging is a sharing of talents.

Hmmm I probably should stop or I'll go on forever..........

Hi!
Please don't use this comment! I'll write something later...but....THANK YOU for blogging about CYBER FYBER! High resolution images have been sent to Cindi Boiter, the professional writer engaged to put the exhibition into print! Cindi just won an important fiction award from the South Carolina Arts Commission. There are still more postcards and ATCs available for trade! Everything is going wonderfully according to plan! Thanks so much!

As I'm often virtually housebound due to my illness, the world of blog has given me a wonderfully vibrant virtual social life, provided me with stimulation and exposure to worlds I could otherwise only imagine, relieved my isolation and loneliness, and taken me out of my preoccupations. And I can be in contact with my friends, even when I have no voice to chat with. Blogging is a godsend.

I started my blog for purely selfish and memory related reasons, I wanted to keep a diary of my C+G so I would always be able to find out what I had done! I never really thought anyone would read it. I have made some of my closest friend here, people who are generous with their time, stash and more importantly their ideas, opinion and advice. It has really changed my life, so much so I am starting on level 4 C+G next year, people here help raise my confidence. Thanks for such a lovely chance to say how I feel.

What a great idea! I think blogs are really quite unique in uniting textile artists from all over the world and opening doors for many who would otherwise, for whatever reason, be meandering along alone!

It still amazes me how generous bloggers are with their ideas ,thoughts and helpful comments, maybe we need to take over the world

It's less than a year since I started blogging, feeling initially that I was sending messages out into the ether but gradually building up a web of friends whose comments and critique I treasure. The sense of community, support and inspiration is invaluable when the people around you don't necessarily understand or appreciate what you're doing.

I've been blogging for about a year and a half and I have no idea why it took me so long to get around to it! I've certainly been online longer than most from work as well as from home, having had my first dial up account before the WWW made its first appearance.

Blogging certainly shows one how much generosity there is left in the world. You see and hear about all sorts of ugliness and crime on the news and in the paper. But in blogs, people share and are generous with their time, ideas, their money, and their 'stuff.' While I'm sure that there are blogs where this isn't so, I'm just happy to see that there are so many where it is. Blogging has given me renewed hope for mankind. And by not watching the news anymore, I have more time for it!

Maggie - I had to learn about blogging for my work and I really didn't want to! BUT, it was so much fun, I 'met' lots of really cool people and had contact with friends overseas more frequently. Now that I'm not at 'that' job, but working at home, I find heaps of inspiration through so many other blogs.

Maggie I have been blogging for quite a while now, and in some ways it has changed my life, people I have never met seem to read my blogs, some one, some the other. I met one and spent a delightful day in California with one I met when 3 or a few more of us were writing and walking and sketching everyday for a year on our blog. Still to meet the others, and my normal everyday blog keeps friends and relatives in touch with what I am doing almost daily. I have met so many people through blogging and being some what isolated on the farm it brightens my day.
I now have so many projects to do i need another lifetime to fit it all in!

My eldest daughter introduced me to blogging over 2 years ago now - she's heavily into hand-knitting - and at first I pooh-poohed the whole blogging scene thinking it was for really sad people who had nothing better to do.
How wrong I was! I started in Nov 06 and hid behind my blog name for several months before coming out of the closet, so to speak :)
Not only have I made lots of like minded supportive friends I have also learned so very much too and am constantly inspired to try new techniques and materials. Blogging keeps me motivated and focused. Its hard to be creative when you are out there on your own. I can't imagine life without it now :)

I started blogging because I hoped to use it as a stimulus to produce more. I found that it helped some but what the photo a day part did was force me to LOOK more, and that has made all the difference I could want. In addition to just looking and posting there is the companionship of comments and discussion about the posts that keep me doing it.

Blogging has enriched my life enormously. Being able to interact with like minded people all over the world at a touch of a button.
Keep blogging Maggie!

Blogging has been the best thing I have ever done. I can hardly believe just how many completely like minded people there are out there and world wide too. They are the kindest, most generous, encouraging and complementary group of people. I have made so many friends. I have even met one in person who managed to visit me last week and it was like meeting an old friend. We had a fabulous day.
So keep on blogging everyone. We are good for each other.
Cheers

Like others, I began blogging after finding so much enjoyment and inspiration in the blogs of others. I enjoy the stimulation of writing and the opportunity to share my various activities and creations, and am always delighted to know people find it of interest. Blogging has put me in touch with many others around the world as well as opened up a whole new resource for learning about textiles and techniques. Checking the web is the first thing I do in the morning and the last at night -time consuming yes, but worth every minute. Regards, Sue McB

I have only been blogging for a couple of months, and I am still learning the ins and outs of it, but I can't imagine life without a blog now, the cyber friends I have made are the most generous you could imagine. I have learnt so much from the tutorials on so many of the blogs - just wish I knew how to go without sleep so I can read more and do more!!
Cheers,
Robin

Blogging has completely changed my life in the last year. I started out as a painter interested in mixed media and am now immersed in the world of textiles, learning to stitch and embellish. I have made so many new friends and found a wonderful warmth and generosity of spirit from artists around the world. I never dreamt when I started that I would cover so much ground and learn so many new skills.

My blogging life started like Maggie (the other one) and some dodgy chums, and after 6 months of not doing anything creative at all, it gave me back my love of textiles and I have met the most amazing people, and quite a few have become great friends,

Hi Maggie, I started my blog to get in contact with other Distant Stitch students. It is a wonderful thing as you share with friends and friends of friends and friends of friends of friends and get amazing inspiration. No such thing as being shy in cyberspace.
